Snowmobile Phazer, Nytro and Apex four stroke line up
Yamaha Apex mountain will not be offered for 2011.
Yamaha only build the Apex in a short track 128" .
This is a question you need to answer yourself. Is 4 stroke Yamaha the way of the future? If you're not sure, then you may want to watch what the people in sled mod-mania are riding. Then ride what they ride.
The thing you may not know is the Yamaha 4 stroke can be mod-ed out and still be reliable to ride. The APEX supercharged has 210 HP on pump fuel. Getting that kind of HP out of a 2 stroke is very costly.
We weighed the APEX it weighed, 615 pounds serviced and ready to ride minus fuel. With fuel it should weight about 695 pounds.
The stock 700 mm with fuel weighed about 635 pounds. This was with a 144 track 15 inch wide.
The APEX has a 162 X 16 so the weight difference would be about 45 pounds.
Yamaha has one of the best tracks out there.
The Yamaha track works so well that we have other brands wanting to put them on their sleds. The track is for boon-docking and hill climbing.
The horse power difference is about 30 HP, so you do the math. When you ride a four stroke 150 horsepower sled it feels like a 175 horsepower.
The four stroke pulls from 300 RPMs to 10500 RPMs.
A two stroke only pulls when you are on the pipe RPM range.
That is why people that ride a four stroke think they have more horsepower.
Yamaha NYTRO mountain
Yamaha built this snowmobile to run. The NYTRO full of fuel weighs in at 615 pounds with electric start. This is true sled weight. With 138 HP before brake in, and after 200 miles the sled has seen 142 HP.
But some people may want 280 HP, a sled that weighs in at about 645 pounds, and lasts 6000 to 10,000 miles. Yamaha four strokes are the only snowmobile engine that will last after super charged or turbo charged.
The new Phazer mountain twin cylinder 4 stroke.
I had the opportunity to ride this sled in Island Park in Feburary 2006 and this sled has fun written all over it. It's a twin 500 cc and only has 80 horsepower.
The 144x14x2 track fits it well. It rides 25 % better then the APEX, stays flat in and out of the corners.
Feels very light, boon-docks very well. For a 80 horsepower sled it did very well. I did not see any 50 MPH track speeds, but it got me to the top with very little effort.
The electric start in nice, and the electric push button reverse is handy.
Very little wind on your hands and legs; this sled was actually warmer to ride than the Apex.
It truly rides like a motorcycle on the trail. Go into the corner hard and and feel the sled eat it up, not like normal sleds do. Ride all day hard and go dancing at night.
